A man by the name of D.T. Niles was once asked what his definition of Evangelism was. His reply was something that I will never forget: “Evangelism is just one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread.”
Isn’t this so true? With all we’re able to make Evangelism out to be, standing on the corner yelling into a microphone (I personally have never been attracted to this type, but if souls are saved through it then so be it), or simply walking across the room and shaking someone’s hand you’ve never met before, or even if it comes through a life group meeting each week in your living room, really it all boils down to us being beggars here on this earth, reaching for something to fill our empty stomachs.
When we find the only one who can deliver the food that we need to live, we should be overcome with a need to tell other beggars where they too can go to find sustenance, food that fills our stomachs continuously.
Are you constantly listening for an opportunity to tell the beggars in your life where to find the Bread of Life, Jesus Christ? If not, maybe its time that you hit your knees and asked God to give you compassion for those around you: the beaten and bruised; the loved and discarded; the lost and found; the strange and familiar.
Everyone needs to hear about the Love of Christ! Why shouldn’t you and I be the ones to tell them about it!!
That’s a good word, man. Such a true way of looking at our predicament.
Very encouraging!
I like the idea of everyone being a beggar. So many Christians, (whether they mean to or not) think of themselves as better than non Christians, just because they are privileged to already know God. We should spend less time thinking about how much we know, and more time going out and telling everyone about God and how great he is so they can know too!
