Wake Up!, by Kaylee Kidwell

I have the tendency of falling asleep during movies. Pretty much any and every movie I see.

This past weekend I went to a drive in movie with some friends, and guess what: I fell asleep. No surprise there, of course. Lame, I know. I always feel  totally awake during the previews, and even the first part of the movie, but before I know it, I’m waking up at the end, and I’m thinking, Whoa. What happened? Suddenly things are totally different and so much has happened! Definitely not a good feeling.

This may seem like kind of a far off analogy, but it did make me think of times in life in which I am simply going along, and suddenly I “wake up” and am thinking, Wow, how did I even get here? Where did the time go? I don’t remember anything that happened.

However, this tendency to zone out can be nice at times. If you are in college, bombarded with tests, you may want to suddenly wake up right at the end scene. Just kidding. But think about it. Why would you want to be walking around asleep, wanting just to get through this life? God has such special moments for us, each and every day. Things he wants to do for us, in us, and through us. Things that, if we are awake and alert for them, will be absolutely amazing.

I don’t want to suddenly ‘wake up’ after this chapter of my life ends, and, like with movies, not remember any of it. No, I want to have this time of my life full and alive with things. I want it to be full of meaningful, Godly things, with no regrets. Just remember, God has a purpose for you during every season of your life. You are not at this point in your life only to pass time until marriage, moving away, or whatever the next step in life is for you. There is a reason you’re here and living right now. Live like it!
