You Are What You Think, by Kaylee Kidwell

Thanksgiving just passed, and I’m not sure about you, but I ate way too much. I’m pretty sure I ate enough to feed at least five average size humans. No joke. Every year around the holidays I always wonder why my jeans keep fitting tighter and tighter. I don’t know why I ever wonder this, or why I get mad because of it! It is not the fault of my poor jeans but my own! I’m the one that ate so much junk, so why wouldn’t I get a few unwanted holiday pounds?

It’s the same way with our spiritual lives. As I’ve heard it said before, “We are what we eat.” We become what we fill our minds with, or what we “feed” on. If we keep putting “junk food” into our minds, why are we so surprised when that same junk comes out in our lives?

This may be where you are; I’ve been down this road before too. I’ve been frustrated because I didn’t feel I was growing  closer to God, and things just felt stagnant.

What I recommend, though, is to take a step back and look at what you are feeding yourself spiritually. Look at the kinds of things filling your thoughts. What you put in is what you will get out. It’s as simple as that! So try reading the Word and meditating on it, reading books, or even doing something crazy, like praying more.

If everyday you eat like I did on Thanksgiving, you can’t expect to lose weight. It’s simply impossible! Likewise, if you feed yourself junk spiritually, you can’t expect positive results. It’s simply impossible! Remember, what you feed yourself is what you will become.
