Letting Go of the Past, by Kaylee Kidwell

One of my absolute favorite scriptures is Isaiah 43: 18-19:

Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands.

This morning, when I came across this scripture, I automatically thought about relationships. Probably because relationships are our focus in Chi Alpha right now, as well at what I am teaching about in my life group. And this passage is one that, whenever I read it, it seems to instantly encourage and challenge me.

Here is the thing: if we constantly focus on past things, our thoughts full of regret, sadness, or confusion, or if our thoughts are consumed by the past, we will more than likely miss the incredible new things God is trying to do right in front of us. Not just new things, but better things!

As far as relationships go, many of us have had past relationships that we continue to get hung up on, over and over again. That’s old history. God has already brought us out of that situation, so it’s time to let go! Don’t hang on to it any longer.

The big thing is trusting him. Focus on him, not on your past. Forget it, move on from it, and trust that he will provide something new. He will bring new life to you.

Are you in a spot in life where you are longing for God to do something new? I know I am. You may be asking, How can I get renewed? By asking God. Ask him to speak to you, to renew you, and to prepare your heart for new and better things. I promise you he will.

Remember, with God the best is always yet to come!

The past will always wreck shop in our minds if we allow it to. What we must do is trust God with our future, but our past too. Good stuff, Kaylee.
